RELIGION
INTRODUCTION
I was raised in a deliberately
non-denominational household, much to my eternal relief. The word
'god' was never used unless someone swore - and even then it
wasn't a term of first choice (or language). Only later, perhaps
with my parents' advancing old age, and perhaps their children's
excursions into consciousness- raising (and lowering) activities,
did things change. Now my father has reclaimed his Buddhist
heritage and my mother has embraced the New Age - and I see the
transparency of both approaches.
I grew up an aetheist, before changing to agnosticism. Now I realise that both these terms indicate a certain distancing from something else that must seen to be strenuously avoided - absolute freedom. And I honestly don't give a damn one way or the other. I experience my occasional revelations, free from the necessity of dogmatic interpretation, and weather the storms of misfortune better than most. I don't distance myself from people who hold religious beliefs, but am genuinely revulsed by those who claim a monopoly on truth and wisdom.
In the current stage of my life, I am - if anything - inclined towards a degree of mysticism that has no outward name or face. This is the mysticism of the self, perceived as both reality and illusion, in a world of changing appearances. But if conventional religion is your bag, then have a look around the following sites. You're sure to find something that mirrors or preempts your own belief-system.
