DESAFIO S
Yours truly and Desafio S
Desafio S. A proven performer designed
and flown by the Somersini's.
Some improvements can be made
by changing the stab position and increasing
its area to avoid wing root vortex caused
by the lack of a wing faring. The vortex
affects the tail and rudder at certain speeds
and angles of attack.

TECHNICAL STUFF

Desafio tailplane showing my method of hiding servos from oil and decreasing
their parasite drag. Yes they are full size JR NES 2000 Superservos and the
stab is the original thickness as per plan. Stab halfs slide in with servo arms
as in left pic. The radio is then turned on and arms pop up through slots in
the stabs.  MK links then are connected. Many people have asked how this was
done. Here are the pictures and explanation.
Construction photos taken 1996.

Left: Pics showing refueling system buy Chris White, MK tank in sponge lined
expandable cradle for YS pressurized fuel system, Jex header system
and remote electrical start plug leads.
Right: Ys 120 SC with air filter and Aero Trend pink fuel tubing clamped with
Tetra fuel tube clips to avoid those high pressure leaks, MK exhaust
bracket, Hatori silencer.

MK ball raced linkages and horns provide no freeplay in control
surfaces. A must in every serious F3A patternship. You can tell
the difference when the is no free play in the control surfaces.
Mk retracts with Chris White undercarriage struts and MK alloy wheels.
Yes there are a normal JR NES 2000 Super servos in each stab
providing elevator control. The stabs are normal thickness.
There are no exposed servos in this model, a promise to Stephen
Mitchell, my aeronautical engineer advisor.
_______________
Neat MK ball bearing connectors. They are a must for F3A
as engine vibration wears out normal control links after only
a few flights especially on planes with large motors that vibrate
or four strokes. Slight wearing cause the slack in control surfaces.
One set will last a life time. JR low profile 7000 Superservos hidden in wing
