AMPHALIA Amphalia is quite a complex Amazon. She is completely mortal to her knowledge but as she was abandoned and adopted by the Amazons when just a tiny girl, she can never be quite sure.
She is a strikingly tall woman with curly light brown hair falling to her shoulders that glints with blonde in the sunlight. Her eyes are a blue/grey mix and they have the power to wilt opponents in a stare but at the same time, engender laughter in a twinkling smile.
She is an extremely experienced warrior and her weapon of choice is a leather whip that is never anywhere but by her side yet she is a fearsome warrior with any weapon that may be within her grasp in a battle. It is this that has made her one of the Queen's most trusted personal bodybuards.
Her long legs are encased by knee length leather boots, her bodice is tight fitting leather with two inche wide straps that are purple material interweaved with the leather and her skirt made of leather strips not too tight fitting as she likes to make use of her long legs to get to where she's going fast and to also flatten her opponents with a kick if the occasion presents itself.
Amphalia likes to have time to herself to reflect on who she is and who she might be but at the same time she has a sense of fun that will never see her miss out on a party. Her wicked sense of humour is only shown to those that are truly her friends. Those who don't really know Amphalia more often than not suppose that she is cold hearted and just a warrior as she has a very cool exterior. However, her sister Amazons and close friends know that they can always rely on her as an ear to listen to or a shoulder to cry on or someone to make them laugh when they're down.
One of her closest friends outside the Amazon world is Hercules. They have known each other for what seems like forever and somehow they both know tha a spark of more than just friendship lies between them but it has always gone unsaid. Amphalia is not very comfortable with talking of her own feelings - she can give advice to others but when her own heart comes into play the game changes completely.
~~APOLLENA, QUEEN OF THE AMAZONS~~ Apollena is 5'8" tall with soft curves that belie the strength hidden beneath her feminine form. She is well proportioned, but for her long legs and neck. Her skin is golden bronze in the summer sun and pale peach during Persephone's long-winter absence. Apollena has silky, waving, waist length, light-auburn hair. It is usually held back by a golden headband. On more formal occasions the Amazon Queen Crown of feathers, semi-precious stones and precious metals is worn. In battle her hair is braided and tightly wrapped around her head. She has been known to braid flowers or brilliantly coloured autumn leaves into her waving tresses, in her more fanciful moods. She has large moss green eyes with dancing flecks of gold and finely arched brows. Her lips are full and coloured a rich, deep peachy-rose over strong white teeth.
Weapons: An excellent warrior with all weapons, the double bladed battle-axe and bow/arrow are her weapons of choice. She was taught the finer points of archery by HerKules. She always carries a breast dagger.
Dress: Daily wear: fitted buff tailored chamois weskit and short wrap skirt with light brown leather boots, gauntlets and armabands, decorated discreetly with brass rivets and inlays for strength and protection. She wears a slender, golden, headband, the only outward badge of her Queenly status.
Battle armour: golden coloured beaten metal over thick leather, with a flap skirt and shin/knee protectors studded with the same golden metal. Her Amazon mask is the head of a male lion, with full, dark mane and ferocious teeth. Horse: a buckskin mare named Nemesis.
Apollena has a voluptuous body, a sharp, quick mind with developed psychic abilities and common sense. She is a firm but fair leader. She is quick to laugh and to cry in sorrow or joy. Her nature is generous and supportive. She is big hearted, but expects only the best from her sister Amazons when their best is needed. This Queen is fearless in battle and takes both her leadership responsibilities and her friendships very seriously. She is devoted to her Amazon sisters and to HerKules, her old and dear friend. HerKules was Apollena's first and only true love. When they were both still budding young adults, they met and fell in love. First as a child and then later as a young woman, Apollena lost all those she called family to Hades' kingdom. She developed her keen intellect and battle skills to survive. It is those skills that have brought her to this new family, the Amazons.
HISTORY: Apollena was orphaned, at the age of 3, and left with a group of women (spiritual healers) to raise, at the Healing Temple of Apollo. She was named in honour of that God of light, healing, intelligence and the arts. She was taught healing skills and developed her psychic abilities. It was here, while both were studying with HerKules' nephew Aesclepius, that the young HerKules and Apollena met and fell in love. Though their affection is still strong, they realized early in their relationship that their personal paths would take them separate ways. They are always there for each other, to support each other in battle and to share their ever-lasting flame of love and affection. Aesclepius was killed by Zeus and Apollo's temple, Apollena's adopted home, was destroyed. She joined HerKules and studied with him and his mentor, Ceridian, to perfect her battle skills. She wasn't sure what the Fates had in store for her, but after learning all she could from the wise centaur, she set out to find her own path.
Her early training and the life path the Fates had destined for her set Apollena apart. She travelled many lonely years looking for her destiny. Eventually she joined with other Amazons to create their own tribe. When the elder ruling Queen died unexpectedly, Apollena was honoured with the title. The Goddesses Artemis, Athena and her loyal band of Amazons bestowed the title of Queen, a title of responsibility and respect, on Apollena because of her spiritual and worldly wisdom, honest fairness and brave deeds. Apollena is proud and thankful to be so greatly honoured by her peers and the Godesses.
BAEORI Baeori is medium in height, but is a strong build with a shapely figure. She has long, chocolate brown hair, with a small wispy fringe, that is usually worn in a bun or braid, or, when she is sleeping or at home, is left out. The main body of her hair is straight until is reaches her shoulders, then is split into corkscrews the rest of the way down - about elbow length. Her eyes resembled the sky on a stormy day, as they are a medium grey in colour with silver rims around the outer edge of the iris and the edge of the pupil, though when she is afraid or angered they darken to a steely grey that betrays her mood.
Born of an Amazon warrior and a Centaur, Baeori was taken from her parents and older brother at the age of one and a half, so she remembers little of them. Raised as a renegade, Baeori was never a good warrior, much to the disappointment of their hag-Queen, Phura. Baeori's shortcomings were only tolerated for so long, as the Queen finally decided to be rid of the girl once and for all. She attacked her with a jagged blade, and Baeori still carries a scar down the side of her throat from the attack. Though she managed to flee, Baeori did return to the village as she had no where else to go. Phura accepted her back into the community, wary of her talent at stringing bows, and feathering arrows. She was rarely taken into battle, and on the odd occasion she was she finally became freed from the Queen's evil grasp and regular attacks on her whenever she had a temper tantrum.
In one raid on a distant Amazon village Baeori was knocked out and left behind, thus ending her time with the renegades. If she ever returned, Phura would have her killed for failing to retreat with the other renegades, as had been ordered. So she remained with the new Amazon tribe, helped by the willing Amazons that soon became her friends, Therese, Kendaa, Stripe, Fayee, Azhure, Laurissa and Klio.
Sworn to Ares' service during her time with the renegades, she still bares the symbol of war (as all those who serve Ares must) on her inner left arm where it is concealed from view. She has three tattoos - her Amazon tattoo, that all Amazons are given when young, is on the back of her neck. Her second tattoo, an armband around her right arm that is of a Celtic design, is the most recent. It is an optional tattoo that is given to any Amazon when she turns sixteen - it marks that she is of age to bear child, and can thus travel with the women's raiding parties to villages where they take what they need from the men to continue the Amazon heritage. Phura, the renegade Queen, had made this usually optional tattoo compulsory throughout the renegade tribes. Her third and final tattoo she has had since she could remember - perhaps even since birth. Though it is not disfigured (as tattoos normally do when a child grows) it is written in a symbol-language that is indecipherable, but to the untrained eye looks like no more than a simple pattern. The writing starts just above her navel and extends up vertically to her breastbone.
As a renegade Baeori wore long, black leather pants with knee high boots and a long black tunic that covered her shoulders and chest, reaching down to her upper-thighs. Her arms were bear, excepting the red sash she had tied around her right arm that marked which renegade tribe she came from. Most renegades wore their sash about their left arm, but as she disliked it so much, she covered up her armband tattoo with it.
After a short while with her new tribe she was finally sworn in, and given new clothes by her dear friend Therese who was a healer and weaver. These consist of a pair of dark-brown, leather boots that reach her knees, a velvety, maroon-red tunic that is strong and sleeveless, and is held up by two thin straps that reach over he shoulders and cross over at the back. The tunic laces together with thin, red twine up the centre front and, once done up, holds her breasts and upper-ribs firmly protected and in-place. The bottom of the tunic cuts off just above her lower ribs, covering up a small part of her stomach tattoo, though the rest remains visible. Her skirt hangs from her hips, exposing her navel and abdomen. The waist belt-like leather at the top of the skirt parts down into three pieces of leather in the centre. Her thighs are covered with the same maroon, velvety material that her tunic is covered with. She no longer wears the red sash, and is less worried about her armband tattoo as it is rarely recognised for its purpose, and is quite beautiful otherwise.
Baeori, though still not a great fighter, has begun training with her friends in the use of the Amazon sword, and was presented one as a gift from her close friend Kendaa. This wavy sword, smithed of a bright silver metal, is stored in a sheath that is strapped to Baeori's back. She also carries the uniform boot-dagger concealed in her right boot, though its hilt is quite obvious. Her most easy-to-use weapon is the bow and arrow, which she picked up quite quickly when she had begun training. She enjoys hunting in her spare time, and has slowly improved at the sport.
She has never had a romantic relationship, as her renegade life left little time for it and she had never met many men in her experience other than her Lord, Ares. Friends with Hercules and Iolaus, she finds safety around them and enjoys their company. Her relationship with Hercules cousin, Iloran, could only be described as love/hate. Their teasing and remarks towards each other are often provoked, though the underlying feeling between them is quite obvious to all but them.
Searching for her parents and brother amidst her happiness in her new life, Baeori tries more and more to forget her time with the renegades. Though she is permanently marked by her experience as one of them, she refuses to believe she was ever truly a part of their society, and so struggles to live at peace with herself in her new found home.
CALEE Calee is 5 ft 11 in tall, slim, with red hair to just below her shoulders and piercing green eyes.
She is fiercely loyal to her friends, always ready to fight for a good cause, sassy and a bit of a smart ass, she's not a leader nor a follower; she follows her own path most of the time. Calee is intelligent and very devious. She is always accompanied by a hawk, and has a talent for communicating with animals, and is gifted with understanding all languages of the earth.
She is a formidable warrior, and while she is good with a bow and arrow and even better with a staff, in battle she prefers a sword. Yet her favourite way to fight is one on one in hand to hand combat.
It is a little known fact among her sisters in the Amazon nation that Calee is fascinated with Ares, yet isn't sure if she is ready to give loyalty to him above all other Gods.
Calee came to the Amazon nation many years ago, after having been washed up on the shores of Greece. It wasn't until a time when Hercules was suffering from a serious illness that Calee finally shared the story of her past with some of her sister Amazons.
At the dawn of time there were the Ancient Ones who sat at the pinnacle of history, brought into being by the One. There was Ra, the ruler of the twelve, Osiris, and Isis; Set, Dahak and Moloch; Sekhmet (known as the Lionness), Anubis and Thoth; and Nephthys, Atum and Tefnut. After millenia of time had passed, conflict rose among the Ancient Ones. Sekhmet, desiring to wage war against the three Dark Ones, Set, Dahak and Moloch, who had committed a terrible wrong, created an army of 12 creatures similar to the Furies. They were beautiful, vengeful, female creatures that looked sometimes like women, but were every manner of animal or monster depending on their need. They were terrible to look upon and fierce in their ways. It was with this army that Sekhmet hunted down the three, defeating their minions in a terrible conflict, and put the Evil Ones in prisons so deep and strong they have rarely ever since escaped.
When Sekhmet had defeated the Dark Three, she was changed. The evils of war, the sheer horror of destruction, had appalled even her vengeful spirit. Her warriors were few now, only three survived the conflict. They were tired and despondent over what they had become. The Lioness and her warriors went to the temple of Ra and asked to be sacrificed so that harmony could be restored to the world and they could find peace in the sleep of oblivion.
Ra took pity on the four brave women. He went to the highest altar and fell down in worship before the One. He asked that mercy be shown these brave creatures who had had to become war and evil in order to contain evil.
The One decreed that balance had to be maintained so the Lioness and her warriors could not be destroyed. But the One blessed the Lioness for her sacrifice and she became an elegant and dainty black cat. It was then that she took the name Bastet. Then the One blessed each of the warriors and they were changed, and they were strewn throughout the ages to live their lives as human women. Calee was one of these warriors. At first after she was changed, she didn't remember anything of her origin. She started her life as a human in Babylon as a scribe and a servant in the temple of Astarte, who was called Isis by the Babylonians. She had the gift of many tongues and could sometimes understand even the sounds of the animals and feel what they felt. Over time, her powers to understand them grew.
The Babylonians sacrificed animals, and in the days that passed it became harder and harder for Calee to watch their suffering. One night, she freed a great, strong bull that was to be killed the next day in honor of the King. For that she was condemned to death. The priests took her to the cliffs and threw her in the sea to die, but she was saved by the dolphins and carried to the shores of Greece. She was accepted among the Amazons not long afterwards, and soon made a place for herself among them. Calee is immortal.
CASSOPEIA Cassopeia came to the Nation of Amazons from a land across the seas. She referred to it as 'The Emerald Isle.' She was born into a clan of simple farmers and grew up in a small village with her parents, an only child. She longed to be a part of a bigger family and so, always looked after the younger children in the village.
At a very young age, her parents knew she had a gift with song. There were never any fights or disagreements among the children when she sang to them. She had been told that before Caesar had come, everyone sang; but he had forced out or destroyed the Druids so no one had sang in her homeland for many seasons. She had to be careful of the Romans.
After a time, the villagers grew wary and afraid of her special gift, afraid that the Romans would hear. Her parents, fearing banishment from the village elders, forbid her to sing. With the loss of her music and her voice, she felt as if her heart and soul bad been taken away and she became lonely and withdrawn. She learned to be very comfortable with only herself for company. Until one day, when she had wandered from the village by herself to enjoy an afternoon swim and to escape the confines of the village. When she returned, she found the village destroyed and everyone dead, including her parents. She was now completely alone, and there was nothing, or no one, to hold on to. She decided to set out and make a new life for herself, away from Roman cruelty, and she vowed never to keep her voice silent ever again.
She headed north and wandered from village to village, helping others and diffusing heated arguments and fights with her song. She traveled far. Word quickly spread of a young woman who was creating peace and harmony through her song. All was going well. People here were not afraid of her gift, everyone here sang. There was speculation that she might be a Druid they were still present in this land. The druids were quite revered in this region as philosophers, healers, and seers; but, because there had not been any in Cassopeia's homeland, there had been no one to recognize her gift or train her in the art of druidry. Still, they welcomed her to their villages with open arms.
In one particularly large village, she met a young, handsome man and she decided to stay on for a while. She became more and more enraptured by the lad as they spent more time together. He began to shower her with gifts and promises. They fell in love and decided to marry. She had never been happier. She started to make plans, and found some beautiful light blue cloth to make a dress for the wedding and some lavendar to make a coverlet for the dress. These had been the standard colors for Cassopeia's clan.
When the day finally came she was ready, and the ceremony began with the villagers leading her in a procession to the wedding altar at a place some distance from town. This would be where the Chief Druid from the Order of the Wise, and the Keeper of the Sacred Grove, would perform the marriage rites. She would meet her husband-to-be at this place. As they came to a clearing, she realized they were getting closer to what looked to be a great circle of massive stone blocks with a smaller circle of stones surrounding it. As they came nearer and nearer, she could see the stones within, placed specifically to look like an altar. She thought this would be where the vows were to take place. She could also see her future husband, standing at the altar. In a short time, she was soon standing next to him. When he turned to her, she knew something was wrong. His eyes had become completely red. When he spoke, it wasn't his usual voice. He told her his master, someone called Dahak, couldn't allow her to continue spreading this peace that came from her song. She felt betrayed and lost. As she tried to run away, between the altar and the edge of the circle, she fell into a gape in the ground, and continued to fall for what seemed to be several minutes. She blacked out before she reached the bottom.
When she came to, she found herself in a dark, damp, and dreary world. Alone and frightened, she began to sing but it did not help her. After a while, when it seemed no one was coming after her, she got up and looked at herself. Other than her gown being slightly torn and dirty, and the coverlet gone, she was intact. She began to explore her surroundings.
She wandered for hours, or days. It was impossible to tell the time in this dark, forsaken place. After an eternity, she heard voices coming from the distance. As she came closer, she could hear the fighting and sense the awfulness of this place. She began to sing again and the arguing stopped. As she continued down a path, she came upon a strangely dressed woman, kneeling on the ground. The woman looked up at her, rose, and introduced herself as the Amazon, Hygea, from Greece. After Cassopeia's own introduction, Hygea explained to her that she had come with her sister Amazons, Hercules, and Xena, to retrieve a sacred stone and to defeat an evil being named Dahak. Cassopeia offered to help, since it was Dahak that had entrapped her here.
Fortunately for the group, that task was accomplished with the help of a small wizard/scribe named Waart. When they were released from Dahak's prison the Amazons all agreed that Cassopeia should come with them to live and begin training to be an Amazon as well. They gave her the title of "Siren," because it was her voice that kept the Greeks from succumbing to the spells of Dahak. She had finally found her big family and a home. CEALLACH (pronounced Kelly) Ceallach is a celt, but she has been adopted into this amazon tribe.
She is 5'6" with a very slender almost fragile-looking build, which makes people constantly underestimate what she can do. She has very long strawberry blonde hair, which she wears loose except for a braid at each temple and a braided leather band around her head to help keep it out of her face. She has soft gray eyes that darken almost to black when she gets angry.
Her normal outfit is brown leather pants tucked into brown leather boots. A long sleeved cream colored shirt that reaches to mid thigh with a dark brown vest over it. Her shirt is decorated with colourful stitching around the collar and cuffs in patterns that she refers to as knot-work. The shirt and vest are cinched at the waist with a braided leather belt from which hangs a knife.
Ceallach tends to have a quick temper but she calms down as fast as she gets mad. She can be extremely stubborn when she believes she is right. She tends to stay in the background and not draw attention to herself, only speaking up when she believes she needs too. She is fiercely loyal to her Amazon sisters and grateful to the queen for giving her a place among them. Like most of her race, she is sometimes afflicted with what she calls her black moods. She has a liking for solitude and often volunteers for scout duty.
No one but the queen knows much about her history before she joined and she doesn't encourage questions. There has been a lot of speculation about her, but not even her close friends know much about her past. By nature she is a bard, though she doesn't practice the craft and must be talked into telling her stories.
Her favorite weapon is the staff and she is extremely good with it. She knew how to use it when she arrived but has since become proficient with a bow as well. She refuses to learn to use a sword, much to her fellow Amazons' dismay sometimes, though she does carry and use a variety of knives. She is also very good at unarmed combat. She doesn't like fighting, but if one is necessary then she will try to make it as brief as possible and will use any means at her disposal to do so. Sometimes shocking her companions by the lengths to which she is willing to go.
She has a very jaded opinion of men and is quick to distrust them and their motives. It took a while for Hercules and Iolaus to win her trust and friendship, and for her to admit to herself that what she felt for Iolaus was something more. CHANTAL Chantal is medium height, long light brown hair (always in braids). Blue eyes. Her weapon of choice is her whip but she can use a sword and a bow. Trained in the East, she came to the Amazons in her mid twenties... after extensive travels. Two tattoos, one of a whip on her right ankle and a skull on her right shoulder.
A follower of Athena, she also makes visits to Ares' temple. She reads, writes in forgotten languages, she's both a scholar and a warrior. Scrolls are her most precious possessions. Impulsive and not really diplomatic, she gets into big trouble speaking her mind.
Usually stays in the background but will take actions when needs be, to defend her sisters and friends. Loyalty, friendship being the most important values to her. HYGEA An unremarkable woman of medium height and build. She had brown hair and deep green eyes that seemed to be able to see into your soul. She had a calm demeanor. She had heard voices since she was young and had trained to be an Oracle at Delphi. After giving advice to a Prince that he did not like, she was sent away from Delphi. She went home but was rejected by her family and village. For fifteen years she wandered the Greek city-states, until she was found by a group of Amazons and asked to join them. She was proficient with the staff as she did not want to kill anyone, so she learned to disable her enemies rather than kill them. She was always willing to help whenever she could.
KENDAA
Kendaa is a tall, slender, but athletically-built Amazon. She is half-dryad, half-human. She has sea-green eyes with gold flecks, (which become deep forest green when she is engaged in battle and/or enraged) and long blonde hair with a fringe, habitually worn tied back with a short piece of leather. She's somewhere in her thirties. Her preferred mode of dress is standard Amazon wear; a functional suede two-piece, top and short skirt in tan colouring. She habitually wears boots, armlets and gauntlets on both arms, a silver pendant in an intricately-woven leaf motife, and often, a simple leather band around her head. On more informal occasions, such as celebrations, she favours the more loose, colourful dress of her sisters, made from light, flowing material.
Trained by Ares, she is equally skilled in the use of the sword and war-staff, and can throw a dagger with devastating accuracy. The sword is her weapon-of-choice, but she possesses and treasures an intricately-wrought, ironwood warstaff made for her by Hephaestus.
Kendaa grew up in the hidden green depths of the Great Northern Oak Dryad Forest Realm, the daughter of Mellinope, the dryad queen. She never knew her father, although Zeus once told her he was a very good warrior. When she was fourteen Hera, in a jealous rage, slaughtered Mellinope, all of Kendaa's dryad sisters and their retinues, and reduced the Forest Realm to a charred, barron wasteland. Kendaa narrowly escaped dying at the hands of Hera's henchmen, but was saved by Hercules, the son of Zeus. During time spent with Hercules and his mentor Cerridian, she rejected her dryad heritage and being. After a period of healing, she went to the Amazons, where, after a period of testing she was accepted, and eventually became one of their most formidable warriors.
Upon her mother's death, she became Queen of the Northern Dryad realm, although this was for many years a dead realm. Many years later, Kendaa made a blood sacrifice that brought life and renewal to the Forest Realm. Some years following the rebirth of her kingdom, Hera yet again tried to destroy her and the little ones that her earlier sacrifice had given birth to. Following a battle in which she defeated the Queen of the Gods using dryad Earth Power, she made a choice to not claim her right and remain to rule the Realm as its rightful Queen. Instead, she chose to act as guardian, while remaining an Amazon. She lives in the City of the Amazons, from where she keeps a close and protective inner eye on the Forest Realm. After the battle with Hera, she at last came to an acceptance of the duality of her nature.
Her half-dryad nature is evident in her affinity for the woodlands surrounding the Amazon city, and in her ability to make plants grow at a rapid rate. She is, like all dryads, able to caste spells to perform many things related to the natural world of the forest. She can also shape-change between her dryad self and her human self, although she has made a choice to live as a human. She never uses dryad earthpower to her own advantage.
Kendaa is a first-rate warrior. Cool, clear-headed and focussed in battle, she makes a formidable opponent. In battle she has always taken to heart Ares' oft-repeated words during her training, "Get angry. But always in cold blood." Loyalty is by far her strongest trait, and she will be loyal to the death to her sister Amazons and to HerKules, who has been a close friend since their teens. She has an abiding hatred for Hera, and for many years studiously tried to ignore the God of War who had long sought to win her over to him. Perversely, while she despises Ares' manipulation of mortals and his bloodlust, she nevertheless, for many years, fought a strong attraction to him, although she has sworn never to serve him. After an incident when Ares temporarily lost his godhood and they were both imprisoned and faced death together in Mitraea, Ares himself forced the issue. After many long battles with him and with her own feelings, she finally admitted her feelings for him were deep. Ares was later to do the same. Their relationship continues to grow, with many misunderstandings and arguments, and much frustration along the way, and Kendaa now cares for Leonides, her young son by Ares. Some time before Leonides' birth, she lost another child to Ares, Eirene, her daughter. Ares arranges for her to see her lost daughter from time to time.
Kendaa's favourite pose is standing or leaning with arms crossed and legs slightly apart. Outwardly she appears taciturn at times, although she has a formidable temper when riled. Anger seems a part of her nature, and if she chose to look deep within herself, would probably admit that it was tied to the destruction of her race so long ago. She is a good listener. She posses a wicked, dry sense of humour. Kendaa fights when she has to, and can be possessed by black rage during battle, but is known to be a peaceable Amazon otherwise. When presented by a statement she finds hard to believe, or just plain silly, she will either treat the person who has spoken to The Stare, or "Oh Please!" Another favourite word is "Wonderful!" (Meaning exactly the opposite). She also finds enjoyment in teasing her sisters.
Her moods are tied strongly to the changing seasons. Winter, when the trees are dormant, finds her depressed, irritable, moody and often lethargic. But come spring and summer, and she is almost hyperactive.
During feasts and celebrations of any kind, she is always one of the first to be up and dancing. The beat of the drums touches something very elemental and deep within her.
KHYRA Name: Jayden
Age: roughly 27
Hair: blonde
Eyes: blue
Parents: Penkos and Elaya of Scirra
Siblings: twin sister (except for their mismatched eyes) Callisto
Occupation: She'Dron Dragon Riders' Queen
Born with her twin sister, Callisto, in a town named Scirra, Jayden grew up with her family until her village was burned by Xena and her army. While her family remained in Scirra, Jayden fled to the nearby forests of Xhen. Here, she was taken in by Ares and escorted to his temple. He was planning to use her mind powers, her seeing and her telepathy for his own benefit on the battlefield. She discovered his plan and fled.
Sending his minions after her, they were going to return her to him when a Centaur boy fought them off. Knowing he could never win her back to his side, Ares changed her appearance and erased her memory. She went with the Centaur boy, Aeron, to the centaur village where a woman by the name of Shayler cared for her. She grew up there and was trained by centaurs, and was given the name Khyra, which means "My Lost Princess". During her time with the centaurs, Khyra met, in the woods, a Dryad woman by the name of Kendaa. They soon became friends and visited each other often in the woods.
Name: Khyra
Hair: Jet black
Eyes: Aqua
Parents: foster parents Shayler and Merremome (a centaur)
Siblings: Foster brother Aeron (centaur).
Leaving the centaurs she was captured by slavers at the age of 15. She spent the next four hears doing hard labour until the young Iolaus was captured, and freed all of the girls and slaves. She travelled back to the centaur camp with Iolaus, and found it being burned by Dragons. Thinking it was the Amazon dragonriders, she buried her only known family and left for the village not too far south. After leaving Iolaus, she encountered a dragon by the name of Sky'Ree, and after attempting to slay him several times in a battle between them that raged for several days, she left, at a stalemate, and entered the village where she met the Queen, Millenia. Discovering that Millenia was not at the head of the attack, but rather it was randon dragons that destroyed the village, Khyra joined the She'Dron Southern Dragonriders and became the master of the Dragon she had previously battled, Sky'Ree. They became friends after he had saved her life out of compassion.
During her time as a She'Dron Dragonrider she was wounded on the battlefield, and befriended a thief by the name of Autolycus, who helped her to a nearby village to get her help. After an incident with a warlord and being locked in the Labyrinth of the Gods, she ate some fruit from the Tree of Life and became immortal.
The Queen's daughter, Zabine, had refused the Right of Caste in an argument with her mother, so Millenia offered the Right of Caste to Khyra, who accepted after many days of thinking. Zabine was later to regret this.
After Millenia died protecting her dragon, Khyra became Queen of what was left of the She'Dron Riders, only a pack of six, as wars from other provinces had torn the riders apart. This pack was killed, leaving only Khyra, when Ares made them pledge their allegiance to him.
The last member of a dead society, Khyra lives on the Cliffs of Tears, not far from the current City of the Amazons.
KLIO Klio is mortal but ...see past history below. Height 5'2" Hair dark purpley black wavy long enough to be tied back. Eyes dark bluish green. Skin pale olive tans well though. Loves to laugh and sing but does not play any instrument. Favourite colour blue/greens and deep purples. Hates yellow and orange except in sunsets. Body shape curved just enough weight and muscle to make an effective fighter but not "all muscle"
Dress, warrior - practical. Occasional ear cuff. Blue oval lapis pendant around neck
Favourite weapons sword and feet but can use any esp knives and the bow. Can use but prefers not to use chakram Hates whips!
Character very complex two sided.
One side comes from mother the water nymph Thesitia. Extremely empathic. Ability to encourage healing (trained by Thesitia), swims like a fish, has a little psychic affinity to water, psychic for trouble, loves young children, loyal to the point of self sacrifice. Good sidekick material, good with animals but has special affinity with fierce creatures. Excellent hearing.
other side comes from father Ares. Logical. Excellent observational skills. Superbly trained fighter. Enjoys the thrill of battle. Ability to see tactical connections. Asks the difficult questions
Past history: Trained in war by Ares and healing by mother. Lived with Ares as adolescent. Death of 'lover and friend' in early twenties (he gave her the lapis pendant) in a major victory decided her war is too big a price to pay and she rejected her father's way. As punishment Ares made her mortal. This death means that though she really enjoys male company (esp warrior hero types) she is afraid to commit to deeply. She's not even sure she can.
She knows she enjoys fighting and often is tempted to fight first ask questions later but she has rejected this path. She does not enjoy violence for violence sake but really does enjoy the challenge of pitting herself battle. Tries not to get angry but sometime fails this miserably especially if someone she cares for is hurt.
This is the cause of a semi constant struggle for her leading to bouts of occasional introspection and self disgust. But she knows she can not totally deny that part of her as much as some days she would like to.
She knows Ares was disappointed at her rejection but does not know he is actually proud of her. She don't see her mother much as her mortality does not lend itself to the nymph's life style but they do still love each other and know it.
Klio knows she has to forge her own path and is trying often unsuccessfully to reconcile and blend both sides of her natures.
Why Ares and Thesitia? For Ares it was the challenge the nymph presented. For Thesitia - she did have a reason but has never told anyone what it was. She was not an unwilling partner but she did not want Ares to stay either. LAURISSA Laurissa is 5 11 tall and has pretty turquoise colored eyes. She has a slim build and long legs, with good-sized boobs that tend to make her a bit top heavy. She's always tanned, as no matter how much her Amazon sisters tell her it's bad for her, she'll never stop worshiping the sun - for hours - usually with a drink in her hand. A natural blonde, she has short, bobbed hair that she thinks is practical and elegant at the same time and she likes to flick it about, so that it catches the sun and shows up her natural golden and white highlights. Of course, her hair color also tends to make her a bit of a ditz and she often gets things wrong and has a shocking memory.
She usually wears normal Amazon work clothes with silver and turquoise jewellery. Her usual garb is a cropped top and tiny skirt (all the better to catch rays in). She loves to be able to move in her clothes and hates winter when she has to cover up and get buried under heaps of fur. She would be first to invent shorts in the amazon city if the H:TLJ timeline would allow her. When she needs to though, she can look very elegant, wearing long, flowing dresses that show off her two curves to their best advantage.
She has lovely white teeth (she keeps them that way by eating lots of strawberries - a natural whitener in those times) which people see often as she's always smiling and laughing. A born optimist she can see the good in every situation and is often the one to cheer people up when situations get gloomy. She does have a serious side though and will never forgive someone who hurts the feelings of one of her friends. Her greatest trait is her loyalty to her friends and the fact that she'll do just about anything for them if they ask. She has a generous nature and would give her last dinar to you if you needed it. Secretly though, she has a good stash of money tucked away just in case of emergencies, as she's also a very practical amazon.
She abhors any kind of sporting activity but loves a good fight. Her weapon of choice is a sword, but she can use any weapon that comes to hand, and teaches fighting to the younger amazons in the City. She has a good sense of balance and is a natural acrobat, two skills she uses to her advantage in battles. She has killed before but would always prefer her enemies to surrender as she has a love of life she likes to pass on to all she meets.
She was brought up by her parents Bantia and Denitis, and doesn't know any life outside of the Amazon City. She has had two lovers but she had never really been in love until she met King Iphicles. Like many Amazons she once had a major crush on Hercules, but she was always too shy to do anything about it. She is also best friends with Iolaus. They've known each other since she was a teenager and they are very close, he's like the big brother she never had. Her two best friends in the City are Kendaa and Lyssa. She and Kendaa have been friends for years and always have a good laugh when they get together. Kendaa loves to dance, but Laurissa always feels awkward in the spotlight, so she usually has to be dragged up before joining in.
Her most usual poses are deep in thought, arms crossed and chewing on one nail, or standing tall (usually when there's a 6ft 2 King of Corinth about) pushing her assets out, twiddling her hair and smiling. The phrases you'll most often hear coming from her lips are 'Oops!' or 'let's go and have a drink'. A consummate party animal, she's always the last to go to bed, and the last to get up the next day, moaning 'I'm never going to do that again!' LESSA Lessa is an Amazon about 25-30 years of age. She has long (to the middle of her back) blondish-brown hair and green-blue eyes. She's about 5'8" with an athletic build. She is proficient in both the staff and a short sword.
She came to the Amazons for a few months after her parents died. Before that she lived in a small village to their north. She left the Amazons despite the protests of Apollena during a period where they were afflicted with daily skirmishes. She came back to the Amazons after they successfully won the Battle of Aerogapas. During the time she'd left many new Amazons had joined Apollena's tribe, and she wasn't welcomed back with open arms by many of them.
She proved herself in battle, by her limited knowledge of smithing, and by her loyalty to her sisters despite the initial distrust. She has both a short temper and a forgiving nature. She is both impulsive in personal life and cautious in professional life depending on what is required. Loyalty is first given to her fellow Amazons. She tries to be generous and is willing to share anything, except the male she currently has her eyes on. She refuses to talk about the gods with any but the Amazons mentioned below, but will happily discuss Hercules, his brother Iphicles, Iolaus, and any other males who visit the village.
She refuses to dress in anything other than a short sleeved tunic and pants, which are more useful in the forge. She keeps her hair pulled back or braided, few ever see it down. She only wears the typical short skirt perfered by many of her sisters at ceremonial functions. Some speculate that it's because of a scar under her rib cage, a black mark that resembles Ares' sigil, that she keeps her body covered. Her hut is on the fringes of the village, but whether it's for privacy or to better protect the village isn't known.
It is not commonly known that she did train with Ares. Arete, Ceallach, Apollena, and Tyche know for sure; others may be told as the subject comes up and she feels like sharing the information. Her training with the god of war lasted approximately 2 years, until the Battle of Aerogapas when he disavowed her and she left his service. She also trained with the god Hephaestus for about 6 months during that time learning the rudiments of weapon-making. When she left his tutelage to go back to Ares, Hephaestus gifted her with a large dagger. It never leaves her side.
When she gets tired she becomes cynical and easily bored. She can suspend disbelief - especially if a god or goddess is showing off. She gets along better with her sisters that get to the point, especially if it's important. Some of her favorite phrases are "Yeah, right!", "What's your point", "And..."
She hates the morning hours and prefers night patrols whenever possible. Life begins after noon STAGEIRA Age: Looks around 25; Height 5.8; Eyes: Clear and plain green; Hair: Dark red to brown.
Born daughter to Aiolos, God of Winds and Weather, and Molpadia, a refugee Amazon.
Stageira's father has always lived on the island of Corfu, in North Western Greece, and was drawn to a young, beautiful Amazon, who along with her sisters, had taken refuge on the island, trying to avoid Hera's wrath. Although protected by Aiolos, the Amazons did not escape Hera's revenge, and they were all murdered. Aiolos as there just in time to save his baby daughter, Stageira. He sent her to a safe place so she can be safely raised free of threat. When she was finally thought to be capable of controlling her life, she was free to live her life as she desired, breaking the heart of her mentor. She started wandering around Greece, free to gather knowledge and live as she wished. After years of wandering, she met with a tribe of Amazons and decided to take up their life. She is now in the process of being assimilated into the tribe.
Skills: Besides being half-god, she tends to be quite gloomy about things, as she has the unbearable gift of seeing the past, present and future very clearly. It is a skill given to her by her mentor.
As daughter of Aiolos, she is also familiar with the weather and winds. She is also called "Daughter of the Storm".
Stageira prefers not to use weapons in a fight, preferring to use her bare hands. She is a skilled warrior in every martial art, but can also handle a sword remarkably well, if necessary.
Outfit: dark blue, short dress. Knee length boots. She always has her hair held back with a leather strand which bears ornamentation of her home island and her mother's lost tribe. She likes to braid soft leather strands in her hair and a feather or two. She is very fond of silver rings and wears one on each finger on both hands.
She is usually in a good mood, and always glad to tell a story or a joke, but she often "retreats", and buries herself in her visions. She is considered to be a worthy mantic, but refuses to practice it unless it is necessary. Her moods can change as easily as the weather, especially when a storm is near. She is secretely in love with her mentor, always thinking of him and how he raised her, instead of her father. She thinks how lovely and lonely he is and how she would like to be again under the protection of Hades, God of the Underworld. THERESE Therese is about 5'8" with long, auburn/coppery hair, part of which is plaited with a leather thong. Her eyes are light green to hazel, and they light up when she smiles or laughs. Her attire consists of two brown kid boots that reach her knees and a sleeveless, russet coloured dress that cuts off just above her knees with two splits up the sides to partially expose her legs and make it easier to ride a horse. The top of the dress is laced at the front with two straps that pass over her shoulders and cross at the back. She wears a healer's armband, and carries a small healer's sack in a special waist wrap she designed herself. She usually wears her hair half-up or completely out, but usually in a thick plait while she's working.
Born in Rome of a Grecian woman and Roman soldier, Therese was brought up in the city, then wondrous to the eyes. Her father died when she was a teenager, and her mother not long after that. As she was an only child, Therese managed to fend for herself until she was taken in by an elder teen named Eburu. This woman taught her the basics of weaving and healing, two professions she would pursue at a later date, as she was pulled from the woman's company four or five years later. At the age of twenty-one Therese was arrested by two Roman soldiers for illegally selling her works throughout the city. She begged they release her as she had no other way of getting money for food, and, as they had a fair amount of compassion, they did so with a warning. But one of the soldiers, formerly a citizen of Greece, took pity on her and decided to find a way to get the money required to get a permit to sell wares in the market. After he had done so, he found her and gave her the gift. They spent further time together, and soon fell deeply in love.
His name was Dimitri, his friend's name Paul. They had been best friends since they were children, and after a few years in their company Therese found herself living in a small home with the two of them as roommates. She was, finally, engaged to Dimitri before they discovered that the Roman marches, of which the two men were a part, were being sent to fight an unknown enemy. As they were unaware of the enemies strength, the two men left Therese behind for several months as the once beautiful Roman empire waged a war against this mysterious foe. One night, while alone, Therese heard a knock at the door and discovered the marches had been all but obliterated. Paul was the first to return to her, and later a bloodied, half-alive Dimitri came. Though, as she was finally glad to have her lover and her dear friend back, later that night they were visited by the son of their enemies main general, who had been slain by Dimitri himself.
The man demanded retribution, and so asked for either Dimitri, or Therese. While Paul held her behind she watched her lover disappear into the night, knowing she would never see him again. Years passed and finally Therese discovered her old friend, Eburu, had joined the Amazons. Deciding her life had no other way to go, she joined them herself and was soon a part of Apollena's tribe. Becoming close friends with Kendaa, Amphalia, Laurissa and Klio she began her life as an Amazon, filling in the space as local healer.
Therese doesn't usually carry a weapon, though, when she is required to, she carries the usual Amazon boot dagger, and a bow and arrow strapped to her back which is easily accessible.
She misses her beloved greatly, though has moved on and is now in her thirties. The leather thong she wears was placed in her hand the moment before he was taken from her, and she rubs it fondly whenever she is thinking, or quietly pondering her life thus far.
