Greens to fight to Save Passive Recreation at Bardon
Park
The
Greens are against the proposed upgrade of Barden
Park.
Randwick-Botany Greens member Judy Greenwood has
indicated that Randwick's Green Councillors will oppose plans to
upgrade Barden Park into a sporting field complete with lighting.
Ms
Greenwood, an ex-Councillor herself, stated,
“I live in
that area and know that the park is extensively used for passive
recreation. For instance, its one of the few areas in the northern
suburbs of the Council where dog owners are allowed to let their pets
off the lead.”
Greens Councillor Murray Matson stated
that he had already indicated to other Councillors that he would be
voting against the development application when it came before
Council.
He elaborated,
“Relatively small local
parks such as Barden should be kept for passive recreation. There is
already a crocket field adjacent to it and tennis courts across the
road. Plus Coogee Oval which caters to rugby is only just down the
road. We can thus afford to retain Barden Park for passive
recreation.”
