Greens Vote to Maximise Historic Artistic Views by Removing Dunningham Reserve Toilet.

Randwick City Councillors for North and East wards have voted to have the existing Dunnigham Reserve toilet block removed to “open up the view over Coogee Beach”.

The Greens supported a Mayoral Minute put forward by the Mayor at last night’s committee meeting.

Greens Councillors Margaret Woodsmith (North Ward) said that in the last few weeks both she and Cr Murray Matson (East Ward) had already come to the conclusion that the block should go and that they would vote that way.

Cr Woodsmith said,

“Murray and I both remembered what an immense improvement was made by the removal of the old Giles Gym building on the northern headland of the beach. We made our minds up after Barry Pearce (Head of Australian Art at AGNSW) highlighted the important role that the view from that position over Coogee beach has played in Australian art.”
