Contentious
Mahon Pool Café Now Unlikely to Proceed
The contentious Mahon Pool Café is unlikely to proceed now that Labor MP
Michael Daley has echoed Greens Councillor Murray Matson’s lack of support for
it.
Yesterday Cr Matson circulated a statement to the local Precinct
Committee that he was not supportive of the proposal and today MP Daley is
expected to hold a press conference to say the same thing.
Cr Matson said in yesterday’s statement to the Precinct Committee that,
“The way I see it at the moment, the value to the community of a café
would be outweighed by the loss to local residents of their accustomed
enjoyment of the headland. I await the end of the assessment process but I am
not expecting that it will change my present view.”
Cr Matson said today,
“It appears that the local MP and I have come to a similar position on
the need to not to commercialize the public land around Mahon Pool. I commend
him on his stance.”
