Heffron Park Asbestos Contamination: Randwick Greens Councillors Address Community Concerns
Randwick City Greens Councillors have
moved to address community concerns over asbestos waste fragments found at
Heffron Park by calling for a program of ongoin air monitoring.
Cr Murray Matson stated that the Greens
were seeking a ongoing program of monitoring for airborne fibre particles.
“Last Tuesday I moved an amendment that
the General Manager be delegated to bring back a report with options for a permanent
program of monitoring to detect airborne asbestos fibre particles at the
Heffron Park site. At present air monitoring only occurs while contractors are
removing pieces of "bonded" asbestos fragments that are occasionally
found on the ground surface.
I understand that a report is going to
the next Council meeting as a result of my amendment.”
