Local Greens Light Rail Proponent
Welcomes Heavy Rail Proposal
Randwick
Greens Councillor Murray Matson has cautiously welcomed media (SMH)
news that the NSW Ministry of Transport is advocating a rail link between UNSW
and West Ryde.
Cr
Matson involved himself in the community consultation process that set up
Randwick City Council’s own Transport Plan that supports either a light or
heavy rail connection to UNSW.
Cr
Matson said today,
“I
understand from today’s SMH storey that the Ministry is advocating an
‘east-west’ link that will apparently run under Anzac Parade and connect to
Martin Place, Wynard and St James.
This
would seem to be inline with Randwick City Council’s Transport Plan, which came
out of a local community consultation project.”
Cr
Matson stated that he wanted to know more details, especially about the
proposed link from UNSW to Malabar.
Cr
Matson has been advocating the return of Light Rail to the Eastern Suburbs
since he was first elected in 1995.
