OUTCOME: Greens Councillor Murray MatsonI believes that Council should not endorse any one commercial product and that includes accredited Green Power products (ie. renewable energy that comes from new sources, not just existing renewable sources).

He said,

“For that reason I successfully moved that Council provide links on our web site to all competing companies selling energy to consumers from new renewable energy sources. This emerging industry is constantly changing with companies jostling to provide new products and deals to the consumer. Council can help intensify the positive ESD outcome to this commercial struggle by providing our residents with as much information on the different products as we can.”

The Greens amended motion read as follows.

“That Council recognizes the dynamic nature of the emerging Greenpower energy industry by using its web site to publish a regularly updated list of web links to the various products currently available with a brief introduction to what constitutes both renewable energy and accredited Green Power.”
