Two Local Green Women to Contest Coogee
and Maroubra
The
Greens have pre-selected Anne Gardiner to contest the state seat of
Maroubra and Kelly Marks for the adjacent seat of Coogee.
Both
women are previous candidates for the Greens and live in the seats
they will seek to represent after next year’s state
election.
Anne Gardiner is a public servant who
originally trained at Prince Henry as a nurse.
Ms
Gardiner is well known locally and ran a very successful campaign for
the Maroubra by-election last year focusing on critical issues such
as the state government’s failure to harvest and recycle
rainwater. She also campaigned on a range of social justice issues.
Kelly Marks is a graduate of Sydney University who
stood for a federal seat in the last Federal election. She identifies
with the eastern suburbs area and says,
“Coogee is
my home now. I’ve been here for several years and worked at
Bazura all last year and now teach Italian locally. Places like
Coogee, Clovelly and Bondi are where I live, work, shop, and relax. I
feel very proud to contest the seat of Coogee for the Greens.”
Anne
Gardiner states that the issues she campaigned on during the Maroubra
by-election “are still being arrogantly dismissed by Labor”
and says,
"We are still flushing our toilets with
drinking water and low income people now have to wait years to see a
dentist. So if voters want these issues taken seriously then its time
for a change.”
Kelly Marks echoes Ms Gardiner’s
scepticism of Labor and says,
“I have been
interested in politics my whole life. My parents have been
active members of the NSW Teachers Federation for more than 20 years
and both have been heavily involved in every State and Federal
election for as long as I can remember. They were Labor Party
members for many years until, like many others, they became
disheartened and joined the Greens with me.
