Kelly Marks (Greens Coogee):
“Land Clearing and Logging Contributing To Global Warming”
Kelly Marks, Greens candidate for Coogee, has warned that the Greenhouse
gases produced by land clearing and logging in NSW is creating as much pollution
as all the states’ cars.
She elaborated said this week,
“Greenhouse gases from land clearing and
logging in South East NSW is creating as much pollution as all cars in NSW. When
logged or bulldozed trees are burn or rot they release their captured carbon
back into our skies.”
The Greens want to close the Eden woodchip mill and to end broad acre
land clearing in NSW by closing loop-holes in the existing legislation and by better
enforcement.
The Wilderness Society claims that land clearing and logging is equal to
the pollution from 3 million cars per year.
“Land Clearing and Logging in South East NSW equates to the greenhouse pollution of 3 million cars on the road in NSW, all year round. And with just over 3 million cars in NSW this means that... the Greenhouse Gases from Land Clearing and Logging in South East NSW is creating as much pollution as all cars in NSW.”
