Greens Discuss need for Referral of Labor Councillor to ICAC

home

Randwick City Council has deferred a decision on whether to refer Labor Councillor Chris Bastic to ICAC.

It was revealed last year that Council resources were used to make a how-to-vote card for Cr Bastic's to promote himself in Labor's pre-selection process for the Maroubra bye-election

Greens Councillor Murray Matson who moved the ICAC motion will be discussing the need for it with his two fellow Greens Councillors during the deferral.

He stated,

“My two Green colleagues are fully aware of the gravity of this matter and I respect their view that we Councillors should proceed carefully before making a final decision to defer one of our number to ICAC.

I will thus be discussing with them the reasons why I feel that Council can not be seen to be condoning Cr Bastic's actions.”

Councillor Matson's deferred motion reads as follows.

That Council views the production by Council staff of a how-to-vote card for Councillor Bastic's personal use in the Labor party's pre-selection process for the Maroubra by-election to be an unacceptable misuse of Council resources and resolves to refer the matter and all documentation held on it to ICAC.
