Green Council Gains Another Sustainability Recognition
Last Saturday night Randwick City Council was recognised as a finalist in the annual Banksia Awards for achievements in sustainability.
The Council was entered in the Local Government category for both its newly adopted 20 year strategic City Plan and its' 18 month old Sustaining Our City program. (http://www.banksiafdn.com/index.php?page=281#10)
This is the Council's second recent sustainability recognition following the special commendation it received last month as a finalist in the 2006 World Environment Day Awards local government category. Greens Deputy Mayor Murray Matson commented after the Banksia award
ceremony,
"These two prestigious finalist positions confirm that Randwick City Council is committed to being one of those Australian councils who will build national sustainability from the local ground up."
The Banksia Environmental Foundation, established in 1989, is a national not-for-profit organisation that promotes environmental excellence and sustainability through its Awards program and other associated events.
The Banksia Environmental Awards are regarded as the most prestigious environmental awards in Australia.
The Banksia Environmental Foundation also organises the Prime Minister's Environmentalist of the Year Award and is in partnership with other State and Interstate Environmental Awards. (http://www.banksiafdn.com/)
