The humble bow tie for so long the trademark of the whackiest, zaniest, most flamboyant Australian television personalities, has taken a bucketing in a review if the best dressed men on television.
The accessory that helped launch the careers of Brian Bury and Mr Squiggle had been credited with the downfall of sports commentator Ian "The Bear" Maurice in the television fashion stakes, according to men’s fashion glossy GQ.
In the upcoming edition, the publication has nominated the best and worst dressed men on the box.
While Maurice is lambasted for his cheesy bow tie style, Channel 10 reporter Matthew White is praised for his beautiful suits and fashion consistency.
The five men on television, according to GQ, are White, followed by second and third-placed Good News Week lads Paul McDermott and Mikey Robins, then Live and Kicking’s Todd Viney with ET’s Richard Wilkins in fifth place.
The worst dressed, or "crook" looks, were Ian Maurice,
closely followed by Mike Munro, whose "on assignment shirts sink to new
Lowes" according to the magazine. Third place was tied by Stan Grant and
Richard Carlton, with Live and Kicking’s Doug Hawkings in forth
and television veteran Daryl Somers bringing up the rear.
