Here's the graph of what happened when my wife took 2,400 shots on a 2006 holiday. The huge bump at the 28mm equivalent means that an even wider angle lens would be desirable, while the small but significant bump at the 200mm equivalent end means an even longer zoom would be nice.

The software to achieve this is Smart Photo Statistics 3.0 and is freeware found at http://www.softsymphony.com/photostat_descr.htm The extra text was added using Paint Shop Pro 8 before making a gif file for web display.
The "steppiness" of the graph does not agree with the way the camera seems to behave, I suspect it's just the lens reporting firmware is steppy and not the lens itself. There's a Menu choice of stepped zoom or unstepped, but we never used the step zoom except for experiments.
