Ricoh Shopping

Shopping for Ricohs (but mostly in Australia)

Here's a few places I keep an eye on for prices, the best price seems to vary from time to time from place to place. Also consider the shipping prices, and some of course allow an in person pickup from their depot or shop or drop point if you live nearby.  The first release prices of the R3, R4 and R5 seem to be always the same dollar amount, with the older models being pushed down in price to clear them. For USA and other parts of the world you have to do your own Googling, but please send me links to good sellers in other countries. Ricoh warranty only seems to work in country of purchase, so be careful with overseas deals. Bargains may not turn out to be bargains if problems occur.

USA Try Tony Rose at www.popflash.comin California for Ricoh, some people in Israel at least have had cameras shipped from Popflash. There are rumours that Ricoh may come back to camera distribution in USA after many years absence, but meanwhile Popflash seems to have a good reputation. Popflash used to handle warranty, but now the USA situation is that the customer themselves have to ship the faulty unit back to C.R.I.S. in Arizona (?) for warranty fix. There will be details about this at Popflash. Adorama in New York also sells Ricoh.

Australia and of course some ship to overseas destinations

Camera Farm Sydney http://www.camerafarm.com.au/camera/customer/home.php easy to deal with, can get quotes for things not listed, bought our R3 and R5 there. Seems to be currently cheapest for many models. Delivery to home or pickup at a city drop point.

Digital City Sydney http://www.digitalcity.net.au/store/index.asp seemed once to be cheapest price on R3, but R5 price now not as good as Camera Farm above (Oct 2006). Enter caplio for the search item to find the Ricohs. Seem to be able to order online and then pickup from city shop for sometimes better prices than at shop itself.

Digital Camera Warehouse Sydney http://www.digital-camera-warehouse.com.au/ mail order or shop at Canterbury in Sydney.

CCC Camera House Sydney http://www.ccccamerahouse.com.au/store/index.asp a few shops around Sydney.

Camera Action Camera House Melbourne http://www.cameraaction.com.au/ got my Olympus E-300 outfit from there at a price I've never seen elsewhere, so always worth checking for what you are interested in. My daughter's R4 also came from there as it was cheapest at the time.

There's plenty more places with prices going up and down all the time. One way in Australia to find things is to try searching www.shopbot.com.au for the item of interest, but it's not complete and not always up to date. Many times places like Dick Smith Electronics, or Harvey Norman, or Domayne stores seem to have runout specials on various camera models. If buying overseas, be aware of warranties. My Olympus gear always comes with a full international warranty, but the Ricoh only comes with a country of purchase warranty.

For camera memory cards, I buy my own from my usual PC parts distributor at wholesale prices, but nearly identical prices can be found at Sunday computer markets. The one we haunt is at Muirfield High School on Barclay Road at North Rocks in Sydney on nearly every Sunday http://www.northrockscomputermarket.com.au/index.php. Lots of PC gear and now lots of camera memory around. All good brands sold, but it varies week to week what may be available. Bought an excellent Philips 19" LCD monitor there for $100 cheaper than cheapest price I could find. It was "faulty" with one bright green pixel down in the bottom right hand corner - I can live with that. For computer bits and pieces and SD cards, also try MSY at Auburn in Sydney www.msy.com.au  or maybe easier to deal with XPMicro at www.xpmicro.com.au
